Considered Green
Who would have thought that Nike, of all shoe companies, would come out with a line of sustainably designed shoes. The Considered line may not be perfectly green, but they are pretty good, and pretty good looking to.

A baby blanket that you can eat. MBDC with a product that is something of a symbol for their (pun probably intended) cradle-to-cradle design consulting business.
Down and dirty living room chairs. Probably not the best thing for your office, unless you're john. EatPES Short Film - Roof Sex (from Apartment Therapy).
Apparently, destroying the earth is quite a hard thing to do. If you are interested though, here is a pseudo-scientific list of the most feasible methods...
So various departments of the Federal Government have been producing prepackaged news reports and distributing them to TV news stations (Permanent link). There is nothing illegal in this, since the department's have been up front about their involvement and production in the reports, apparently. It is disturbing for some related reasons though: that this administration feels the real news is that bad and the public cannot handle it; the administration feels it cannot get its own side of the story out through regular reports and briefings; the administration possibly does not trust the news media to get its side of the story out; the news media that the administration possibly does not trust seems some what eager to accept prepackaged news stories and play them without telling its audience where and why it got them.
The White House seems to be acting some what Nixonian, I am really not quite sure what to make of the media outlets that took these stories and played them without comment.
New studies are coming in showing that Portland's Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) did not contribute to the city's rise in median house prices nearly as much as critics said it did (What is an UGB?). Reading this article, one is reminded that basing studies on census data always introduces the probability for error, especially with projections.
A friend of mine is the bassist and sings in a pretty good country/rock band, Gowanus Corral. They play shows mostly in Brooklyn and some here in Manhattan. Definitely check them out. Hopefully they will play our local favorite bar The Rodeo sometime soon.
Generate sales really cool lights, including one of my favorites, the Lumalasch. (from design*sponge)
The Creative Commons - Mixter project released the winners of its Fine Art Of Sampling Contest. All the tracks use Creative Commons licenses and allow sampling and remixing and are derived from The Wired Album put out by Wired Magazine. The tracks are all pretty good, I particularly like four of them: Dangerouse, Revolve, out of my way, My Fair Hiphop
My beautiful fiance designed a house that won an honor award from the AIA Redwood Empire Chapter last year, and there are finally a couple pictures of it online: Healdsburg House - 2004 Design Award Winners
Stanford has up some well designed pages for their: d.school | multidisciplinary design innovation center. They have run multidisciplinary product design classes out of the Mechanical Engineering Department for a long time that were very popular, with a focus on usability and sustainability. It is nice to see a full curriculum developed in this interesting area. (From noisebetweenstations)
